The Transplant Process: Why You Should Help: KCAU-TV.com

The Transplant Process: Why You Should Help - News, Weather and Sports for Sioux City, IA: KCAU-TV.com

This story is about my Dad, Gordon Johnson, who received a heart transplant 9.5 years ago. That was such a dark period in my life, as well as my family. We are thankful daily for the miracle of a second chance at life, given by those who donate the organs of their loved ones.

Please be an organ donor and make your wishes known to your family! We don't need these body parts when we die, but they give many others a chance to live and not be so very ill as they are prior to receiving an organ donation.

Awesome Game Day 1

John & I are here in Branson, MO at the NAIA National's. Dordt men played this afternoon and WON! It was a pretty tough game, but they survived! There was a great amount of Dordt fans there supporting the team, and it was a lot of fun! After the game, Peoples Bank had a reception for all the Dordt fans, players, parents that were there, which was also super nice!

The weather was really nice here today. Tomorrow there is a 70% chance of rain. Our next game is Friday at 8:30 AM.

We are Going on a Road Trip!

Dordt Men won the GPAC Season as the #1 team! They received their first GPAC Season win in school history and got a trophy! I was THERE in person, and it was very exciting! They were also still ranked 4th in the Nation this week after winning 3 games last week. WE ARE GOING TO THE NAIA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT!

Good thing we already booked a hotel for Branson, MO and planning to leave on March 6th! I can't wait and I really hope Dordt continues to play as well as they have been! I want them to be #1 Champions! :)

It will be really nice to have a week off of work, too, and have a little vacation!

Dordt College Basketball

I have been a fan of Dordt College (Sioux Center, Iowa) Basketball since I was a student there from 1981-1983. I think I attended EVERY home game while I was a student, and it was the place to be on game days! We had a great pep band and cheerleaders (guys & gals), and the tradition was to stand until Dordt made their first basket!

Over the last 8 years or so, I have been able to follow Dordt basketball online since they broadcast all their games on their radio station and on the internet! Home games are on webcast, which is great! Since I live about 50 miles from Dordt, I try to go to a few games a year when I can, and also attend the games that are here in Sioux City against the two colleges that are here. One of those colleges is my husband's alma mater, so that really makes it interesting!

This year I decided to wear my school spirit on my vehicle, so to speak, by getting a personalized license plate which is actually in school colors and with their logo and team name on it! How cool is that? I was able to get "BSKTFAN" which is really sweet!

This season the men's team has had what I think is their best record in school history! We even sat at #2 in the nation for a few weeks! We won the first 15 games, and then got bumped off by one of the local teams, which happens NOT to be a favorite of mine.

Today I drove to Dordt to watch the game in person, playing this same team. Let's just say the gym was PACKED to the rafters, they resurrected the pep band this year and who knows, maybe by next year they will have cheerleaders again! At any rate, our gals team easily beat their #2 in the country team by a score of 81-57! Then the band started playing, and the men began their game. Dordt led the whole game and we won 75-53! As I posted on Facebook, "the Band and fans are Rocking the Defender House!" It was awesome and I had a blast today! The men are now 21-3 and when they go to the National Tournament in Point Lookout, Missouri in March, I plan to be there!! :)

Flights of the Butterfly

Since I've loved butterflies since I was pretty young, I decided to name my blog "Flights of the Butterfly" since every day life is just a little flight every day, changing where we go, who we are with, our experiences, what things we are concerned about and things like that.

I want a place to share the little things about my every day life that are fun, funny, hopeful, interesting and make me stop and think! Also a place to share special pictures, weekend fun, I'm not sure if I'll share this with very many people, or just my special friends!

So I begin this blog in January, 2012 and I am now 48.5 years young! Time goes so fast, it is really hard to believe!
